MEETING OF THE WORLD WAR II – KOREAN WAR ROUNDTABLE

TOPIC: Dr. Joe Foley will relate his experiences as an Army doctor on the landing
beaches from Sicily to Normandy. He also has some comments about General
George Patton.
FEBRUARY MEETING SUMMARY
Dr. John Liambeis spoke about his experiences with the Greek Partisans during WWII. He met with a number of their leaders and with several of the British agents attached to the Partisans. One of there operations was the destruction of bridges on the roads used by the Germans to supply the Africa Corps. Spiros (Sam) Pappas also spoke. He was attached to a different Partisan group but his experiences were similar to those of Dr. Liambeis. Neither were involved with the civil war in Greece that followed after WWII. SPEAKERS FOR 2005: Do you know of anyone who served in North Africa, Sicily or Italy during WWII? If you do, please call Dean Smith. He is also looking for anyone who is knowledgeable about the proposed invasion of Japan or the intelligence service.

EXECUTIVE MEETING ACTIONS: The executive board made the following decisions:
We would provide copies of all both our past and future talks to the University of Akron archives.
We would provide a copy of the talk to the speaker (both past and future).
We will give at least $200 to the Fairlawn Recreation Department for providing us a meeting room this year.
