SEPTEMBER TOPIC: Aaron Fox, “The Marines at IWO JIMA”

 

AUGUST  MEETING SUMMARY:.Gordon Simon recounted the major Pacific air and sea battles from Pearl Harbor to the decisive “ Miracle at Midway” battle. Aircraft of Japan and the United States were examined in detail. Some of ours were badly outmoded.

Epilogue: Professor Vye gave his impressions of his visit to Midway 50 years later. It is now a wildlife sanctuary.

. Our attendance was 87

 

SPEAKERS FOR 2005 and 2006:  Dean Smith is looking for anyone who is    knowledgeable about the battle for Okinawa.

October 27: Col “Speed” Wilson, a marine pilot in both WWII and Korea.

November 17 (the THIRD Thursday): Glenn Smith, B-24 navigator shot down over    Germany.

 

“HEADS UP”; All of our meetings are  “LIVING HISTORY FOR OUR KIDS

Bring your children and grandchildren and introduce them to WWII and the

Korean War by veterans who were there.
