  SPEAKER: March 26:  Mrs Betty Gold, a holocaust survivor in Eastern Poland

 

 February Meeting Summary:: Ernie Phillips, Marine Corps, was an orderly for Adm Spruance on the heavy cruiser USS Northampton. On Dec 7 the Northampton was returning to Pearl after delivering aircraft to Wake Island. She stayed long enough to refuel and load ammunition and then left Pearl never to return. She was sunk in the battle off Savo Island. He swam to Savo where he was taken care of by a native who said “Me no Jap”. Prior to Dec 7 there were a number of drills in which the Japanese were supposed to have bombed Pearl Harbor.  Attendance was 82.

2008 THEME: “Bring Two Veterans”. Personally bring 2 veterans and their families with you to our meetings.

VHP: (Veterans History Project) Report. Do you want to tape your wartime experiences? Contact Jerri Donohue (440 546 1207) to make arrangements. If you know of any veteran reunions in Ohio coming up please call Jerri so she can attend and get some of these veterans to record their stories.

     May 28, 2009 : Sydney “Skip” Friedman, 106th infantry was captured in the Battle

        of the Bulge. As a Jewish POW he was given special treatment by the Germans
