September Meeting Summary: Jerry Kennard was a B-24 navigator shot down and wounded by AA flak over Catania, Sicily. He was in military hospital for several months in Sicily and at Leghorn, Italy. He escaped from a train taking him to Germany and was helped by Italians tired of the war.  He was recaptured and sent to a POW camp in Barth, Germany. The POWs were not mistreated. They spent their time in athletics, making things and taking courses prepared by  other POWs. He was repatriated and returned to the US in September 1944.
